Our History
What We Do & How We Got Here
In 1989, a nearby factory asked a local entrepreneur to sort out and separate a semi load of metal fasteners that spilled and became mixed when the truck hauling them in open bins rolled over. The successful completion of this monumental task led to additional and more varied sorting work, and the company was launched. The first official employee was hired in 1990. Both the first customer and first employee are still with the company today. Our current General Manager was hired in 1994.
The original location of H&H Sorting was on St. Charles Street in Elgin. As the company grew and diversified, a second location was added in South Elgin in 2011 to better accommodate plastics products. ISO certification was achieved in 1999 and minority / woman owned WBENC certification was granted in 2011.
In addition to hand sorting and inspection, the company’s services now include such processes as assembly, custom packaging, labeling and more.
